Beginnings
– How I view my practice at the start of my current training –

I enjoy the wonder of working with children. It is a real privilege to observe the things they are amazed by or curious about.
My role involves working with children across early level, in a range of schools and nurseries. My goal is to ensure children have freedom to explore and get the most from their learning environment. I am responsible for fostering communication between Renfrewshire's Early Years Graduates. I support NQT's with play pedagogy and support infant classrooms to create enabling environments.
Using observations and children's voice to continually adapt learning spaces to fit their interests and needs.
I work across a range of settings, each is at a different stage on their journey. Good practice includes high-quality mealtimes, free-flow access between outdoor and indoor spaces, and practitioners who interact sensitively through play to extend learning opportunities.
In some settings, I work to create action plans in response to children's voice. .By listening to their needs, wants and interests, we are able to foster high-quality learning and experiences. In other settings, this is evident through high-quality observations, where adaptations are made to suit the interests of the children.
My practice is informed by prioritising opportunities for children to solve problems, and make choices based on things that they are interested in.
By promoting children's rights, I am supporting children to make decisions, consider their community, and think about their current and future role in the world.
I want to be empowered to celebrate children for their own individuality, and to use what I learn to take away the notion that there is a 'right way' to achieve something or complete a task. I want to be able to foster creativity and take away children's fears of 'getting it wrong'.
Support from my team to meet the needs of all of my settings, and a desire from myself and my settings to be ever-evolving.
