I have worked in Early years for 27 years, with a rich tapestry of experience. I currently work at RBGE where i facilitated a pilot project "Is it possible to have an outdoor children's nursery within a Botanic garden?"

My view/experience of practice at the end of my most recent period of training

This practitioner has not chosen to share this information at this time.

Children never fail to amaze me, they keep me young and eager to gain more knowledge.

My role currently has been to facilitate Treasure baskets (Elinor Goldschmied) at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, initially 10 parents and babies attended a 4 week pilot session, then an 8 week block ran and the ripple effect has been that another group has developed "sprouts" for the babies that have out grown treasure baskets.
My role has changed as a result of my training as it has given me the self confidence to share Treasure baskets and how the power of a tresure basket should not be underestimated. they truelly are "food for the brain."

My practice has always been child centred as i have been lucky enough to have experienced Froebelian practice since the beginning, i will say however that my training has given me a voice to share my belief.

I have sourced natural resources that i collect myself, I am always drawn to a smooth pebble or asthetically pleasing piece of drift wood, i source resources in charity shops, and free web sites. I have a reputation as a womble at work as i can always upcycle resources and find a new use for them.
I have set up the Outdoor nursery in RBGE and the indoor classroom to be as welcoming an environment as possible on a very limited budget and using a Froebelian lens.
I have shared my practice is underpinned by Froebelian principles of play and backed up my practice with theory.

the children led the play in Our Wee Garden and areas developed with the children, so for example the children created a den adding sticks and branches as a roof between two pallets they then watched birds and looked at books in the space also.
the children had a real sense of ownership in Our Wee Garden and i had continued provision out each session they attended.

I am very aware that currently with the cost of living crisis the gap between rich and poor is betting bigger, it would be my aim to create an inclusive free or pay what you can session for stay and play at Our Wee Garden or treasure baskets.

Froebelian practice inspires all my practice and decisions if something does not sit comfortably with me at work i challenge it and question what is the thinking behind the thought/decision?
i ask what is the aim?
Who is this for?
what will be gained?

I hope to continue meeting like minded people and share good practice.
i hope to share my experiences and learning to hopefully inspire others.

I need connection feeling like i am making a difference and linking.
Using my passion and sharing with others my feelings helps me do a good job, i require communication to do my job well and feedback also.
