Beginnings
– How I view my practice at the start of my current training –

I enjoy being part of a childs developmental journey, I am fortunate to play a part in children meeting new milestones and supporting individual learning. The best part about my job is seeing children play and having fun!
I would describe my job role as; A Role Model for our Future.
My practice is always child- centred and child-led. I believe children should have the opportunity to lead their own learning in the direction that is suited to the child’s interests. By doing so we capture the child’s creativity and imagination and in return, the child will take their learning further in the directon of their choice.
Our Environment is child-centered as the children have the freedom to choose and lead their own learning. Free-flow play is embedded within the child’s day, resources are easily accessible with pictures and words to represent the resource. Materials on offer are tailored to the individual child, offering challenge and support when required. Children are involved in daily risk assessments, policies and decisions about the establishment.
The children within my establishment are encouraged to be effective communicators and are invited to participate in all decisions that are made to benefit our young people. We value children’s voice and feel it’s important to have their views embbeded within our policies and within shaping the enviroment. We encourage our children to make their own choices and lead their own learning.
Froebel Inspires my practice on daily basis, through invitations I set up for the children to explore, block play experiences where I am often observing the stage each child is at within the seven stages of block play. Within outdoor learning where we are planting and harvesting our own veg, rolling down hills and being creative with the tool bench.
An awareness of social justice impacts my practice by, treating everyone as individuals and making choice which are fair and just. I embed children's rights (UNCRC) into my practice in order for children to learn and understand their rights.
I am hoping to strengthen my knowledge on Froebel Principles and learn more on adventurous play. I would like to set up a fire-pit for the children to cook on and develop new experiences.
I am fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful staff team who share a similar Froebelian ethos and support my passion to develop Froebel’s principles within our establishment in order to provide better outcomes for our children and their families.
