Beginnings
– How I view my practice at the start of my current training –
This practitioner has not chosen to share this information at this time.
I enjoy following the children's interests and seeing where it takes us. I also love to see the children develop and grow in confidence of their own abilities.
My role for the last 7 1/2 yrs has been an early years practitioner. I am responsible for providing high quality well thought out experiences for the children, taking forward and following the children's interests, providing open ended resources to encourage the children's imagination and creativity. I also treat every child in my care with a warm, friendly and nurturing manner to ensure they feel safe and secure in their nursery. I have recently taken on the role as acting team leader in my setting, I am enjoying the experience and hope to share what I am learning by taking part in Froebelian Futures with the team.
I view my role as supporting and extending the children's play and ideas. Most importantly I have fun with the children as they develop their ideas. follow their interests and learn new skills. I allow the children the time they need to come to their own conclusion about how their play has gone allowing them to reflect on their play and develop a greater understanding of the world around them.
Taking part in the Froebel certificate courses has made me more confident in my own abilities and how I think as a practitioner. It has made me slow down and take a closer look at all the learning taking place on a daily basis in my setting. My project was on block play and I genuinely never appreciated just how much learning, creativity, problem solving, expression of past experiences, language development and working with others was going on while the children play with blocks. We have also developed our garden giving the children a wide range of new experiences which have enabled the children to participate in challenging play where they are able to risk assess their play and realise their capabilities and limits. The children also looked after their plants, fruit and vegetables where they were able to see their hard work pay of when the seen the flowers bloom, picked fruit to enjoy at snack time and made soup from the vegetables they had grown.
We strive to treat every child / family in our nursery community with fairness, equality and respect and offer help and support to those who may need it.
I hope to embed the Froebelian principles into my everyday practice and share what I have learned with my colleagues.
