Beginnings
– How I view my practice at the start of my current training –
This practitioner has not chosen to share this information at this time.
I love the spontaneity of working with children, no two days are the same. As the children's curiosity encourages them to ask questions and explore this also motivates me to build on my own knowledge.
I describe myself as a jack of all trades. I am a keyworker to children, a mentor to students and staff, a liaison to parents, a supervisor to staff, a member of management and also pretty handy with a screwdriver.
My PRACTICE is most child-centred as I facilitate playful learning. By following the child's own interests it encourages their natural curiosity improving their learning experience. This allows for better outcomes for the children.
ENVIRONMENT - The nursery inside and out provides a supportive, independence based environment. Children are encouraged to navigate their environment independently. They can engage in a range of learning experiences which are catered to their stages of development.
MATERIALS - Children have access to a variety of materials including loose parts and natural resources
PROCEDURES - Procedures are in place to support and keep the children safe
The practitioners listen to the children's voices not only by what they say but observing the children allow practitioners to see what is working for them and what needs improvement.
Having only just completed my Froebelian certification I feel like I am at the start of my journey. My project was on block play, however, I feel like I can do more to introduce Froebelian principles, practice and experiences. This will be achieved by sharing with staff to ensure the sustainability of the different Froebel practices.
I hope to embed the Froebelian principles into my everyday practice.
